چکیده

For ISAC at TRIUMF, radioactive isotopes are generated with a 500 MeV proton beam. The beam power is up to 40 kW and can easily melt the delicate target if too tightly focused. We protect this target by closely monitoring the distribution of the incident proton beam. There is a 3-wire scanner monitor installed near the target; these give the vertical profile and the +45◦ and −45◦ profiles. Our objective is to use these 3 measured projections to find the 2-D density distribution. By implementing the maximum entropy (MENT) algorithm, we have developed a computer program to realize tomographic reconstruction of the beam density distribution. Of particular concern is to make the calculation sufficiently efficient such that an operator can obtain the distribution within a few seconds of the scan. As well, we have developed the technique to perform phase space reconstruction, using many wire scans and the calculated transfer matrices between them. In this paper we present details of the computer code and the techniques used to improve noise tolerance and compute efficiency, after reviewing the MENT algorithm.

Tomographic Reconstruction of the Ionospheric Electron Density in term of Wavelets

Ionospheric tomography is a method to investigate the ionospheric electron density in two or three dimensions. In this study, the function-based tomographic technique has been used for regional reconstruction of a 3D tomographic model of the ionospheric electron density using the GPS measurements of the Iranian Permanent GPS Network. Two-dimensional Haar wavelets and empirical orthogonal functi...

A generalized information theoretical approach to tomographic reconstruction

A generalized maximum-entropy-based approach to noisy inverse problems such as the Abel problem, tomography or deconvolution is presented. In this generalized method, instead of employing a regularization parameter, each unknown parameter is redefined as a proper probability distribution within a certain pre-specified support. Then, the joint entropies of both, the noise and signal probabilitie...

Tomographic Reconstruction from Noisy Data

A generalized maximum entropy based approach to noisy inverse problems such as the Abel problem, tomography, or deconvolution is discussed and reviewed. Unlike the more traditional regularization approach, in the method discussed here, each unknown parameter (signal and noise) is redefined as a proper probability distribution within a certain pre-specified support. Then, the joint entropies of ...

Tomography by the maximum entropy method for the W7-AS and W7-X multichannel bolometer systems

Amaximum entropy approach has been applied to the tomographic inversion of the line integrated measurements of radiation power ux by a multichannel bolometer system. This method was applied to a H-mode discharge in the W7-AS stellarator, with increasing radiation from the plasma core after the transition being observed. Also a neutral beam injection discharge was investigated, and the time evol...
